Mark Harmon leave NCIS: Since the first episode of the CBS drama series “NCIS,” Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon, has guided the NCIS operatives through a number of extraordinary cases and situations.

Gibbs defends and mentors his team members on a personal and professional level in the face of threats and challenges.

Gibbs’ tenure with the NCIS, however, comes to an end in the nineteenth season when he makes the decision to go on in life without working in law enforcement.

Mark Harmon leaves the venerable programme as a result of Gibbs’ choice.

The audience must be curious about Harmon’s departure and the possibility of seeing him reprise his role as Gibbs when the show returns for its twentieth episode. So, let’s go through all we know about it!

Why Did Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Played By Mark Harmon, Leave NCIS?

Mark Harmon’s departure from “NCIS” was made official when Gibbs opted to return to Alaska after feeling at peace there.

Harmon claims that his decision to leave the programme was inspired by the development of his character. “The role I play, as well as the need to make it interesting and difficult, have always pulled me here.

This character’s decision was driven by the plot. In one of the bonus featurettes included with the Season 19 DVD release of “NCIS,” Harmon said, “I felt it was honest and OK with.

In a recent interview, Harmon also discussed how his character was “evolving” and becoming older, explaining the rationale for Gibbs’ choice to remain in Alaska and opening the door for the actor to leave.

Additionally, showrunner Steve Binder noted how crucial it is to acknowledge the character’s “development” in light of Gibbs’ choice.

Binder said in a statement that “being true to our characters has always been our north star, and that truth has always driven the tales we write and where those characters go.”

Harmon’s departure was required in order to respect the character after Gibbs left the NCIS.

According to Binder, it “simply didn’t seem right” to picture Gibbs in his retirement doing things like grocery shopping, working in his basement, and playing checkers in the park.

We decided to place him nowhere since it simply didn’t seem appropriate to place him anywhere. He said, “He walked out into the woods, into the bush.

Given that Gibbs is still alive, Harmon’s return for the 20th season must be anticipated by the audience. What we can share regarding the same is as follows.

Will Mark Harmon Reappear In Season 20 Of NCIS?

A door is definitely open for the actor to return to the twentieth season of “NCIS,” despite the fact that neither Mark Harmon, Steve Binder, nor CBS has made an announcement to that effect.

Never rule Leroy Jethro Gibbs out, as devoted viewers of the programme may have seen over the years, according to Binder, who confirmed the likelihood of Harmon’s return to the show at some point in the future.

But it’s impossible to predict if such a comeback will occur in season 20.

Having said that, Binder has said that a plot requiring Gibbs’ return would determine if Harmon returns. “There is always room in the brain for Harmon to return.

Binder told TV Insider, “I simply believe it needs to be the proper tale to get him enthused about it and to get us thrilled about it.

Why Did Mark Harmon Leave NCIS?

We must play this card, and I don’t believe we should do it shabbily. When we play it, I believe it really has to be the correct thing, he said.

Binder and CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl both said that Harmon may make a comeback on the programme.

Mark has always participated in the show and will continue to do so. We’ll simply have to wait and watch how things develop with regard to his on-air appearances, Kahl told Deadline.

Additionally, Kahl told TVLine that “everyone is aware that the door is open if he [Harmon] ever wants to come in for an episode, or numerous episodes.”

Harmon’s comeback as Gibbs to improve the performance of the show cannot be completely ruled out as he is still one of the executive producers of the programme.

His former coworkers are driven by his beliefs even without Gibbs.

When the Raven accuses Special Agent Alden Parker of murder, Timothy McGee and other NCIS personnel defend Parker in the same way that Gibbs would have.

We may expect Harmon’s comeback in the role of Gibbs after listening to Binder and Kahl’s statements.

We may have to be content with the allusions to Gibbs that McGee and others make while adhering to his teachings until we get confirmation of his potential comeback in season 20.
